Despite promising long-term prospects, the situation remains tense in the craft sector, comprising approximately 9,000 businesses and 100,000 employees, as highlighted in a recent survey conducted by the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts.
According to Tom Wirion, Director General of the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts, a significant majority of business leaders have expressed concerns over declining or stagnant sales, with 44% citing apprehension regarding profitability.
Approximately one in four employers surveyed acknowledged the possibility of workforce reductions, potentially stemming from retirements without replacements. These indicators suggest a challenging short-term outlook for the sector.
Of particular focus for the craft industry is sustainability, with larger craft businesses recognising significant potential in this area, despite current limited customer interest.
Minister of the Economy Lex Delles reaffirmed the government's commitment to actively support the craft sector's sustainability endeavours and pledged to continue investment in infrastructure.
