
The incident occurred at around 3pm on the CR144 between Ehnen and Lenningen, close to the German border. According to police reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and colliding with a tree. Prompt action by emergency responders allowed for the extraction of the driver from the vehicle just before it erupted into flames.
Following initial treatment by an ambulance team from Remich and the Canach fire brigade at the scene, the driver was taken to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries later in the afternoon. The 79-year-old driver was from the eastern region of the country.
The public prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation, ordering the forensic police to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
