Scammers are continuing to pose as charity workers in order to steal money from unsuspecting citizens, say Luxembourg police.

In recent weeks, the Grand Ducal police said they had received multiple reports of individuals posing as charity workers in order to strike up conversations with their victims. The attackers then take advantage of any lapses in concentration to steal the victim's purse or wallet, or they use underhanded tactics to convince the victim to hand over their bank details or debit card.

Genuine charity workers will never ask people to hand over their bank cards so they can withdraw money on their behalf. The majority of charitable organisations share information on their websites to advise how best to identify their representatives.

Anyone approached by these individuals is encouraged to contact the police.
