To now reintroduce law and order will be extremely difficult thanks to our society being completely deregulated by left-wing parties and the press only looking for PR instead of covering the basics. Bye bye Luxembourg." / © Screenshot Facebook
A Facebook post by Hesperange Mayor Marc Lies, which stirred considerable debate at the onset of March, has drawn strong criticism from the local opposition, who deem such remarks unacceptable.
Representatives from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), the Pirate Party, and the Green Party (déi Gréng) have condemned Mayor Lies' statements as offensive, asserting they perpetuate negative stereotypes about refugees and unfairly depict them as perpetrators of criminal acts. In response, the five opposition politicians plan to address five specific enquiries at the upcoming municipal council meeting, alongside demanding an apology from the mayor.
The opposition's questions will delve into the municipality of Hesperange's efforts to foster respect, tolerance, and social inclusion. Additionally, concerns will be raised regarding how trust and unity can be restored within the community following the fallout from these controversies.
Additionally, the opposition parties expect a statement from the Democratic Party (DP), the coalition partner of Mayor Lies' Christian Social People's Party (CSV) in Hesperange, regarding the matter.
