59 nations have been taking part in the Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart since Friday, including a team of chefs from the Grand Duchy – the ‘Luxembourg Culinary Catering Team’.
The group, which is made up of former national team members, competed in the community and armed forces category, in which the aim is to prepare amuse-bouches and a grand scale catering menu.
21 teams were registered in the category, including teams made up of chefs from the German, French, Polish, and American armies.
On Saturday, the Luxembourg team finally had to present the dishes they designed and tested over the last few months. Four people were behind the stoves: Laurie Delhez, Emeline Niot, Jacques Schoumacker, and Gérome Welter. They were further supported by a number of assistants that helped clean up stations during the competition.
In the end, the jury awarded the bronze medal to the Luxembourg team. However, it should be noted that the particular nature of this competition allows several teams to be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze medal for their achievements.
The chefs from the Culinary Catering Team were not the only Luxembourgers present in Stuttgart. Four of the 72 members of the jury were from the Grand Duchy, as was presenter Christian Schmit, who has been been hosting culinary competitions since 1994, leading both the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
