For the first time in its brief history, Fokus hosted a New Year's gathering at a café in Luxembourg City on Friday evening.

As with other parties, several speakers took the opportunity to reflect on the past year, but also to make plans for 2024. Party leader Marc Ruppert spoke of an exciting year in 2023, which unfortunately did not see spectacular results for the party. it was nonetheless "solid. The campaign was progressive, its content was courageous, and gave us an appetite for more."

Fokus members also added that they would be giving the new government a little more time before commenting and challenging its work. Frank Engel, however, did not fail to lament the recent begging ban: "If this is what awaits us over the next few years, in that that we extreme ideological visions will become the main subject of political debate at the expense of the poorest in society, then we have five exciting years ahead of us."

The first thing on Fokus' agenda is to deal with reimbursements for last year's two election campaigns, but they also look forward to the European elections which are just around the corner on 9 June. Indeed, the party has unanimously decided to set up a programme with Frank Engel as top candidate.

The former MEP emphasised his desire for majority decisions to be taken in Europe in future: "[Hungarian leader] Victor Orban, with whom I have already had several encounters, could therefore no longer hold Europe hostage if this system were to be reformed. It can't continue to be the case that decisions don't get through because the 100% approval isn't being reached." According to Frank Engel, Europe simply cannot be pushed forward in this way.
