Army evaluation systemNew government and civil service union already at odds

The General Confederation of Civil Servants (CGFP) is continuing its dispute with the government over the reintroduction of the evaluation system to the Luxembourg Army.

The trade union for the civil service entered another round of mediation meetings with the government this week over what they called a violation of the civil service salary agreement, in a press release published on Friday. The CGFP maintains that the previous government breached the agreement prior to being voted out, and subsequent government representatives have refused to discuss the core of the matter, instead declaring the process inadmissible in December.

However, the union says this argument lacks truth and pointed out several errors on behalf of the government, including the claim that the union has mistakenly initiated a general legal dispute, rather than a sectoral one. In Friday’s statement, the union declared that the “demonstrable violation of the salary agreement represents an affront to all state employees. This is clearly a general legal dispute that is in no way to be equated with a sectoral matter.”

New minister Serge Wilmes is accused of being “inactive” in relation to the dispute, with the union saying he should have led negotiations instead of simply sending a letter following the initial negotiations.

The CGFP concluded its statement saying it intended to continue its campaign to abolish the evaluation system and demanded further emergency meetings with MP Wilmes of the CSV.
