In the early hours of Friday morning, firefighters responded to reports of a building fire in Diekirch. One person was seriously injured.

At 4.24am, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) was alerted to a fire in a flat on the Esplanade in Diekirch. Six emergency teams were sent to the scene, including two ambulances from the Nordstad region, the SAMU medical unit from Ettelbruck, and firefighters from Nordstad, Ingeldorf, and Bettendorf. According to the police, the inhabitant of the flat was seriously injured and is now in hospital.

Several other residents had to be evacuated. The police say that they were able to get out of the building on their own before the police arrived.

The operation ended shortly after 7am. The police temporarily closed the road to traffic. The criminal investigation department has been called in by the public prosecutor's office to investigate the cause of the fire.
