The proposed expansion in Kirchberg will see the route diverging at Pont Rouge and following Boulevard Konrad Adenauer to serve the future Laangfur and Kuebebierg neighbourhoods.
Simultaneously, the expansion of the Hollerich tram line is designed to cater to the future Nei Hollerich neighbourhood and its anticipated multimodal interchange.
This week, the Parliamentary Mobility Committee is set to appoint the rapporteur for the bill outlining the extensions to the tram line in Luxembourg City.
The bill, initially presented by former Minister for Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, carries a projected cost of €135 million. The financial burden will be shared, with the State contributing €90 million and the municipality of Luxembourg City providing €45 million.
As the extension to the Cloche d’Or football stadium progresses towards completion by mid-2024, plans also include extending tram services to Findel Airport by the end of the year. Covering a four-kilometre stretch, this extension will feature a single stop at Héienhaff.
