A rather unusual domestic animal was reported missing in northern Luxembourg in early January, not far from the Belgian border.
The miniature zebu - a breed of miniature cattle - is a two-year-old male named Simba, who was rescued from slaughter as a calf. He was reported missing by his owner from the meadow where he lives, between Poteau de Harlange and Surré in the municipality of Boulaide, on 3 January.
Simba is described as rusty brown in colour, with a characteristic hump at the withers on his back. The animal is said to be relatively domesticated and may approach if called by name.
The miniature zebu was born at the Bettembourg park, where he was designated for slaughter; however, he was saved from that fate thanks to donations from the public. Shortly afterwards he was purchased by his current owner and moved to a 16-hectare meadow to enjoy his freedom.
