Following a fatal incident in a Pétange nightclub nearly a fortnight ago, a security guard taken into custody following the event has been released.
On the night of 22-23 December, an altercation ensued between a security guard and a customer in a nightclub in Pétange. The customer fell and was injured so badly that he died shortly thereafter, according to the public prosecutor's office.
The 57-year-old security guard was arrested for involuntary manslaughter and remanded in custody at the Sanem penitentiary.
Now, almost two weeks after the fatal incident, the guard has been released and placed under 'judicial control'. This was confirmed to RTL by the public prosecutor's office on request. The guard's release was decided by the council chamber of the district court on the grounds that the conditions for pre-trial detention had not been met.
A suspected offender must remain in custody if there is a flight risk, a risk of tampering with possible evidence or a risk that the person concerned will seek further punishment.
Autopsy completed
The autopsy on the deceased is now complete and his body has been handed over to his family. The funeral of the deceased will take place this week, the family's lawyer confirmed to RTL.
The cause of death and further details of the autopsy have not been disclosed by the public prosecutor's office.
