Flood riskYellow alert issued for Tuesday due to heavy rain forecast

RTL Today
Météolux has placed the entire country on yellow alert ahead of heavy rain showers set to hit the Grand Duchy on Tuesday.

Luxembourg is bracing itself for heavy rain showers on 2 January, with up to 35 litres of precipitation predicted to fall per square metre, says Météolux. The national weather station has issued a yellow alert for the entire country, throughout the whole day on Tuesday. As if all that rain wasn’t quite enough, the bad weather will be accompanied by strong winds, reaching up to 75 km/h, while temperatures will peak at 10°C.

The Water Management Authority has initiated its phase of vigilance for the flood forecasting service (SPC), as the inclement weather brings an increase flood risk around the country. Luxembourg’s water levels and forecasts are updated on the website www.inondations.lu.

Over the coming days, temperatures are set to fall somewhat, with cooler mornings starting off at 2°C, rising to highs of 10°C. Although the amount of rainfall will reduce after Tuesday, it is unlikely that sunshine will grace our skies any time soon.
