The Luxembourg Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (LCGB) fell victim to a cyberattack last Saturday, December 16th. The LCGB disclosed this information only on the following Friday, indicating that they plan to “file a complaint with the Grand Ducal Police.”

The attack occurred “despite all efforts and precautions taken” to prevent such incidents and safeguard information. Preliminary reports indicate that only “a limited amount of data was leaked.”

According to the latest update from the LCGB, “no personal data, whether from members or collaborators, was leaked.” However, ongoing investigations are being conducted to determine the extent of the breach and the type of information that may have been exfiltrated.

As early as Saturday, the LCGB established a crisis response unit, backed by a team of cybersecurity experts, to “analyse the incident, contain the attack, protect the computer infrastructure, and ensure a seamless return to a fully available and operational system.”
The union states that, on Monday, the computer system was already back to being “fully operational and strengthened security measure as well as an in-depth monitoring had been put into force.” On Tuesday, members of the central committee were informed of the attack.

The relevant authorities were also notified of the cyberattack and the possibility of data extraction.
