As of 1 February 2024, the Centre Hospitalier du Nord (CHdN) is set to expand its paediatric services at the Ettelbruck site, aiming to bring improved healthcare closer to residents in northern Luxembourg.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, the CHdN disclosed the approval of a team comprising five paediatric neonatologists. This team will be responsible for delivering neonatal care in the maternity unit and introducing a local paediatric day service to complement existing paediatric services.

Starting 1 February, a dedicated paediatric specialist will be available for urgent consultations from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, in the CHdN emergency department. The initiative aligns with CHdN's objective to be more accessible to patients, particularly in addressing paediatric emergencies that do not necessitate inpatient treatment, thereby reducing travel for families.

Outside the specified hours and for cases requiring inpatient treatment, all paediatric emergencies will be redirected to the Paediatric Emergency Department of the National Paediatric Service at the Children's Clinic (CHL) in Luxembourg City.

"By accrediting this new team of paediatric neonatologists in Ettelbruck, we are demonstrating our commitment to extending access to paediatric first aid to the population of northern Luxembourg," says Dr Paul Wirtgen, Director General of the CHdN.
