Charel Weiler, who recently led the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) to a notable municipal victory in Diekirch, has now secured his place in the Chamber of Deputies, aiming to address pressing issues of justice, housing, and mobility in the northern parts of Luxembourg.
Charel Weiler is one of the new faces in the Chamber of Deputies after having completed a successful run for office for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) in the northern constituency. The MP was working as a lawyer at a Diekirch firm for nine years, but spent the past nine months focusing on work for his party.
At 37 years old, Weiler is not really a political newcomer. In 2006 he joined the Christian Social Youth (CSJ) and was elected to the Diekirch municipal council in 2017. Earlier this year he then led his party to victory in the municipal elections, breaking the 12-year-long spell of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) having an absolute majority in the northern town.
Now Mayor of Diekirch, Weiler still had to prove himself at the national level. After not having made the cut in 2013 and in 2018, he finally managed to earn himself a spot in parliament by scoring enough votes in the recent election. The Mayor and MP now intends to focus on the issues of justice, housing, and mobility specifically within the northern part of the Grand Duchy.
