Luc Frieden, making a triumphant return to politics, stands poised to become Luxembourg's next Prime Minister after the CSV's recent electoral victory. His vision: leading the nation towards economic attractiveness, social justice, and ecological responsibility.

After nearly a decade in opposition, the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) has returned to power, aiming to forge a new coalition government. Luc Frieden, former Justice and Finance Minister, is the driving force behind this comeback, reentering politics after a decade in the private sector."

His comeback took many by surprise when the CSV announced it in January. After consulting with family and friends, he stepped back from all other responsibilities to fully focus on leading the CSV back to power.

And so began the journey of a well-known face with a fresh image: the 'new' Luc, relaxed without a tie, rich in experience, and dedicated to helping young and old.

Despite criticism from all sides about the party's renewal approach, it appears to have paid off. On Monday, Grand Duke Henri tasked Frieden with forming a new government in light of the election results.

'Time for new policies'

Fewer taxes for everyone, premium payments for parents looking after their children at home, and reduced VAT rates for those investing into housing... it is safe to say that the CSV's proposed policies did not sit well with the outgoing government coalition of Democratic Party (DP), Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), and The Greens.

Nevertheless, voters embraced the CSV's ideas, with the party maintaining both its vote share and Chamber seat tally from 2018.

Frieden, who is now poised to become Luxembourg's next Prime Minister, already presented his vision for what the Grand Duchy should look like in five years in a recent RTL television report: "A modern and safe Luxembourg, which is economically attractive, socially just, and ecologically responsible."
