In a standard procedure, Bettel presented the resignation of his government at the Grand Ducal Palace on Monday morning, the day following the elections.

According to the Grand Ducal Court, "His Royal Highness the Grand Duke has asked the current government to remain in office until the formation of a new government and to continue directing the general policy, in accordance with Article 93 (5) of the Constitution." This procedural step ensures that the outgoing government continues to govern until a new coalition is established and the transition of power is complete.

In a statement to RTL, Xavier Bettel mentioned that he anticipates a decision from the Grand Duke "today or tomorrow" regarding the appointment of either a formateur or an informateur for the government. The formateur's role is to assemble a new government, while the informateur engages with political parties, assesses the political landscape, and ultimately recommends a formateur to the Grand Duke.

To provide some context, in 2018, Martine Solovieff served as an informateur. After conducting meetings with various political parties, she recommended Xavier Bettel as the formateur, leading to the continuation of the existing coalition.

The process of government formation will involve consultations with the leaders of different political parties. Scheduled audiences at the Grand Ducal Palace include:

  • 11:00 AM - LSAP
  • 11:30 AM - DP
  • 2:00 PM - The Greens
  • 2:30 PM - CSV
  • 3:00 PM - The Left
  • 3:30 PM - ADR
  • 4:00 PM - Pirates

These consultations represent the initial steps in the journey towards establishing a new government in Luxembourg. The outcome will determine the political landscape and direction of the country for the coming years.
