'Läif a Séil'First Luxembourg western to premiere in October

RTL Today
'Läif a Séil', a groundbreaking Luxembourg western directed by Loic Tanson, unveils a haunting tale of revenge and child abuse set against the stark, dramatic backdrop of 19th century Oesling region.

Filmmaker Loic Tanson worked on ‘Läif a Séil’ (‘Body and Soul’), the first Luxembourg western, for six years.

The film is set in the middle of the 19th century and tells the story of Helene, a young woman who has returned to her childhood village in the Oesling region. With the town now being ruled by the Graff family, it does not take long for her to take revenge for the terrible childhood that she suffered in the community.

For lead actress Sophie Mousel, the film is not just about revenge; it also tackles themes of child abuse and strategies for confronting figures of authority. Jules Werner, who portrays the village leader, is barely recognizable and delivers a truly terrifying performance as the antagonist.

In addition to familiar faces such as Luc Schiltz, Tommy Schlesser, and Marie Jung, the film also features three young talents in the lead child roles: Giusi Carenza, Lou Beltramini, and Jamie Baillie.

The musical score was composed by Mike Koster and Thorunn Egilsdottir, known for their pop-oriented music with their band When Airy Met Fairy, marking their premiere as film composers.

Viewers should note that the film contains several graphic scenes of violence. ‘Läif a Séil’ can be seen in cinemas across Luxembourg as of 25 October.
