Four officers arrested in Luxembourg City for alleged police violence during a May 2023 confrontation will remain in custody, following an appeal court's decision to overturn their provisional release.
Four officers suspected of having committed police violence were arrested in mid July.
The case dates back to a confrontation they had with an agitator in Luxembourg City on 20 May 2023, who had been placed in a drunk tank to sober up. In a press release at the time, the public prosecutor's office explained that "aggravated assault and battery obstruction of justice and forgery" had been committed against the intoxicated person by four officers.
Last week, the district court decided to provisionally release two of the officers, but the appeal court has since overturned this decision, meaning that the officers will remain in custody until further notice.
