Four of the professional chambers in Luxembourg are openly critical of a new bill from the ministry of education which would regulate further training while remaining employed.

The Chambers of Agriculture, Commerce, Employees and the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts are criticising a new project to reform further training for professionals.

According to Muriel Morbé from the Chamber of Commerce, they welcome further training for workers. The Chamber of Commerce is however saddened by the lack of dialogue between the different chambers and the ministry in the creation of this bill. They also call out the lack of consultation in organising the trainingships.

Muriel Morbé thinks that the terminology is not precise enough and that this could lead to uncertainties on the part of the workers but also on the part of their employers too.

"It is unclear how workers would be evaluated and promoted within this traineeship, as a company does not need an official right to train a person, something that is very important in an apprenticeship.”

Having an official right to train would increase the quality of the traineeship.

Muriel Morbé states that in its current form this bill would lead to a toxic situation, as the director of professional training within the ministry of education could take a slew of decisions completely on their own.

In their review, the chambers ask that the ministry of education come back to the negotiating table for this bill.
