During the Green Party congress held at Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg City on Saturday, Tanson encouraged party members not to be disheartened by the disappointing results of the recent local elections, stating that victory in the upcoming elections was within reach.
Addressing the party members from the podium, Tanson expressed her belief, saying, “we can win the elections.” The congress served as a platform for presenting and voting on the party’s electoral programme.
The party will introduce the 60 candidates who will represent them in the legislative elections starting from Wednesday.
As the sole national lead candidate, Tanson expressed her gratitude to her supporters in her inaugural speech. She acknowledged that setbacks are part of the political journey but urged party members not to lose heart, assuring them that their commitment was not in vain.
The primary goal on Saturday was to reinvigorate the party base following the unfavourable outcome of the municipal elections held on 11 June, which proved challenging for the Green Party.
Tanson highlighted her satisfaction with her party’s contributions to the country’s progress in recent years. She proceeded to outline her priorities for the next five years, emphasising that climate policies must “be at the centre” of political action.
The electoral programme for the October legislative elections was approved by a significant majority of votes during the congress on Saturday.
Notably, the programme advocates for a reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on organic food to enhance its accessibility for all residents. In addition, the Green Party is committed to implementing fairer tax reforms that support the most disadvantaged.
