By end of yearControversial Don Bosco migrant residence in Limpertsberg to close

RTL Today
Minister of Immigration Jean Asselborn has officially announced that the 'Don Bosco' migrant residence in Limpertsberg will permanently close its doors on 31 December 2023.

The confirmation came in response to a parliamentary question posed by the Left Party (déi Lénk).

The asylum seekers’ residence has faced recurring criticism regarding its substandard conditions, leading to the decision to shut it down.

80 individuals will be directly affected by the closure. The National Reception Office (ONA) has already sent out letters to the residents, instructing them to vacate the premises by 30 November.

The Luxembourg Red Cross, responsible for managing the transition, has also informed the occupants about the closure.

Applicants seeking international protection, categorised as individuals under the DPI statute, as well as affected beneficiaries (BPI persons), will be relocated by the ONA.

Currently, the ONA operates reception facilities in over 30 municipalities across the country, and discussions are underway to further expand these capacities.
