After reopening on Wednesday, the newly renovated playground attracted many people on sunny Sunday - and your morning editor was there on Saturday.
In response to the limited parking options surrounding the newly unveiled attraction, the city has implemented bus line 33. This efficient service conveniently links the forest playground with the heart of the city, transporting visitors to their destination in a brisk ten minutes.
The revamped playground has already garnered widespread acclaim from parents. Its standout features include a natural wooden aesthetic that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding nature. Moreover, ample shaded areas, interactive water games, and numerous sanitary facilities contribute to its suitability for summertime enjoyment.
Charming elements of yesteryears, such as the vintage wooden merry-go-round, have been thoughtfully restored, infusing a nostalgic charm that reminds visitors of the location's longstanding history as a children's playground, stretching back half a century. Modern innovations dovetail with historical reverence, with the addition of a renovated fortress and playful imitations of the Bockfels and the castle bridge. In this manner, the playground artfully embraces the capital's cultural and historical narrative.
Offering a diverse range of amenities, the new playground caters to a broad spectrum of activities and age groups. Whether it's basking in the sunlight, seeking refuge in the shade, enjoying a picnic, indulging in energetic play, or splashing around in the water, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy at this welcoming and inclusive facility.
Editor's experience
Given the nature of this article from our Luxembourgish colleagues, your Monday morning editor thought he might throw in a bit of personal experience. As it happens, I have a 21-month-old daughter, and we hopped over to the new playground this past Saturday.
First off - they really aren't kidding when they say that parking is limited. There are quite a few spaces but, for the moment at least, demand massively outstrips supply. There were a lot of cars parked along the road (ours included), which isn't the safest nor most convenient place for them. Using the bus definitely strikes me as a better idea unless you're planning to get there early, and the stop is a brief walk of perhaps 2 minutes away from the playground itself.
The description of the playground above is no exaggeration - it truly is fantastic. It's huge, beautifully constructed, and contains more elements than you could shake a stick at (incidentally there are loads of sticks in the forest that surrounds it). From sandpits to climbing frames, to pump-action water cannons, swings, merry-go-rounds, and beyond.. there is something for everyone.
Despite being incredibly busy when we visited, finding somewhere to sit and an activity for our daughter was actually quite easy. There were kids absolutely everywhere, but still enough activity options for everyone. I also quite like how they had divided it into different areas with elements clearly designed for kids of a given age bracket, which ensured that the littler kids, like our daughter, wouldn't have to worry too much about accidentally getting knocked over by a rowdier bunch of more steady-footed 6-year-olds, for instance. Equally her lack of ambulatory velocity didn't cause annoyance to them.
Overall, a great place for a free day out.
