In November of last year, the MEP responded to the latest allegations made by one of her former staff members, claiming that they were untrue and unsubstantiated. According to Semedo, she launched a procedure in December 2021 to terminate the contract with the staff member in question due to “unprofessional behaviour.”
On Tuesday, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and the plenary in Strasbourg confirmed that Monica Semedo would be sanctioned for the second time, once again for bullying. The Luxembourgish MEP will have to pay a fine of ten days’ compensation, or €3,380.
Semedo defended herself against the accusations because the assistant only filed his complaint after he was no longer working for her. The MEP had previously been sanctioned for allegedly bullying three staff members two years prior. She was suspended from the European Parliament for a fortnight at the time, during which she also received no compensations.
Following the first mobbing affair, Semedo left the Democratic Party (DP). Since then, she represents the parliamentary group ‘Renew Europe’ in the European Parliament.
The MEP from eastern Luxembourg has the option to appeal the latest decision.
