Last year, Monica Semedo was suspended for a fortnight by the former president of the EU parliament, David Sassoli, on grounds of psychological harassment. In the meantime, these proceedings have been concluded, but she is facing new harassment allegations.
A new investigation is launched against Monica Semedo after an employee reported allegations of psychological harassment in the workplace.
According to "Wort", the responsible committee concluded in a report that the allegations are well-founded and that it was indeed about psychological harassment.
The committee gave its report to President Roberta Metsola, who will have the final word on the consequences for the former PD politician. She will be suspended for a few weeks and will not be able to participate in the sessions during this time. The final decision on these sanctions will be taken in December or January.
This won't be the first time: already last year, Semedo was suspended for a fortnight by former European Parliament President David Sassoli because of psychological harassment. She also had to hand in her DP party membership card.
This time, the sanctions will be a bit stronger, Wort notes.
Former staff members say that the working atmosphere under Semedo was intolerable, that unrealistic demands were made on the assistants and that there was constant mental pressure. Since the former Liberal politician has been in parliament, eight employees have allegedly come and gone.
In a post on Facebook, Semedo is combative. She writes that she should be allowed to continue doing her job, with a team that is just as passionate as she is, the post concludes.
Similarly to last year, the European deputy who now sits in parliament for the Renew Party, does not seem to have any sentiments of guilt.
