After the Pirate Party reported a door-to-door action by the Left Party ('déi Lénk') to the public prosecutor's office, the latter has now decided to close the case without pursuing criminal charges.

According to the assessment of the public prosecutor's office, the facts denounced by the Pirate Party on 23 March 2023 do not constitute an infringement of article 95 paragraph 4 of the electoral law of 18 February 2003.

For an infraction to be committed, the purpose of a candidate's home visit(s) would have to be to remind voters about their candidacy, and the level of the candidate's illegal propaganda would have to have an effective influence on the outcome of the election.

According to the materials provided to the public prosecutor's office, the Left Party's strategy, on the other hand, appeared to be aimed at including more non-Luxembourg residents in the communal voting process, given the current low rate of registration of this demographic, particularly in Luxembourg City.
