The European institutions have banned the download and use of the social network TikTok on the work devices of their staff.

The EU authorities cite data security concerns as the reason for this decision.

For the time being, Luxembourg will not follow the EU's lead. However, in his response to a parliamentary question by MPs Mars Di Bartolomeo and Dan Biancalana from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), Minister for Digitalisation Xavier Bettel said that "the government continues to closely follow the reflections and concerns about data security regarding the TikTok app."

Bettel went on to say that the Grand Duchy has joined other Member States in requesting additional information from the European Commission.

The Minister cited the Charter of Good Conduct for Digital Information Security of the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems, which generally recommends, with regard to business devices, to use "commercial online services only with caution and restraint."
