The Luxembourg City Business Association (UCVL) has already welcomed the municipality's new initiative.
The UCVL noted in a statement issued Friday morning that it has been advocating for forced evictions for years in order to outlaw begging in commercial areas of Luxembourg City. For this reason, the association hopes that the new policy will be approved by the city council.
Laurent Mosar, a member of the municipal executive board (Schäfferot) for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), told the business magazine Paperjam that the ban will be in effect between 7am and 10pm. It would cover "parks, public squares, and several streets in the Upper City and the Gare district."
The municipal council will vote on the measure on 27 March.
