International Women's DayFeminist platform JIF demands more care structures for women in need

The Luxembourgish feminist platform JIF has published a number of demands ahead of International Women's Day next month.

In a statement published on Thursday, the group called for more reception and care structures for women in need, including people who are homeless, or domestic violence victims. Currently there are long waiting lists for women’s shelters in Luxembourg, and housing is as much of an issue here as it is among the wider population.

More affordable housing is needed in the public sector to house women leaving shelters, or for single-parent families. The group also called for more specialised shelters aimed at homeless women, as well as more care structures for women seeking refuge from domestic violence.

JIF said the fight for equality and women’s rights was far from over. According to the group, women are likely to face discrimination in real estate, along with other vulnerable groups such as the LGBTQ+ community, minorities, migrants, the elderly and the disabled.
