In a new RTL report, our colleagues were granted access to Luxembourg City hotels Royal and Cravat, both of which are usually frequented by famous people when visiting the Grand Duchy.

Hotel Royal first opened its doors on the capital's Boulevard of the same name in June 1984. Today, it is considered one of Luxembourg's most luxurious hotels.

The building was initially planned to be two stories higher, but neighbours managed to prevent that from happening with the help of a petition. The hotel now has 210 rooms for guests, nine seminar rooms, a swimming pool, and a 'royal suite' located on the top floor of the building.

This suite is usually the place where famous people stay when visiting the Grand Duchy.

Célia has been working at Hotel Royal for over 20 years and is in charge of breakfast. She vividly recalls when the Portuguese football national team stayed at the hotel and she managed to help recover a phone belonging to one of the players, which his team mates had hidden as a prank.

Hotel Cravat

Hotel Cravat is located right across from the Monument of Remembrance, or 'Golden Lady' as it is commonly known in Luxembourg. The four-star hotel was founded by the grandparents of current director Carlo Cravat, who lives on the top floor of the building and loves welcoming guests to this day.

Head concierge Betim has been part of the hotel team for over 20 years and has also seen one or two famous faces during his time, including former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the British band Kaiser Chiefs.

Even more famous were the guests of Hotel Cravat in the 1970s, however, which included both the last King of Nepal, and the British delegation during Queen Elizabeth II's visit in 1976.
