The altercation was brought to RTL Today’s attention via discussion on the r/Luxembourg Reddit page.
A user reported that they had been on the second level of a Kirchberg supermarket when they “heard someone at the cashiers downstairs screaming ... in pain and shock,” and later were told that someone had been stabbed.
The same user reported that they had later seen the victim, while a comment from a second user stated that they too had been upstairs and were later witness to the arrival of “3 or 4" members of the police attending the scene.
Our colleagues from RTL.LU reached out to the police for further information, and a police spokesperson confirmed that two women had entered into an altercation in the supermarket. While the cause of the argument remains unknown, the police confirmed that one woman received light injuries as a result of being cut with a box cutter.
This incident - alongside a spate of burglaries over the weekend - has also led to discussion as to whether Luxembourg is seeing a surge in crime. This is something that Alannah Meyrath looked into recently for RTL Today, including a look at the per-capita change in ‘violence against people’ which doubled between 2000 and 2021.
