The Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), the Democratic Party (DP), the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), the Greens, the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR), the Pirate Party, the Left, as well as Fokus and Volt all agreed on ground rules for the two upcoming election campaigns.
The Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL) and the Conservatives were not present at the signing of the agreement on Monday morning.
The nine parties thereby committed themselves to deal with campaigns in a “factual” manner and to refrain from personal insults against candidates during debates or on social networks. They further pledged not to engage in disinformation campaigns and not to damage their opponents’ posters. Politicians should also distance themselves from discriminatory or insulting statements by members of their own party.

The nine parties declared that they will not spend more than €100,000 on election promotion, including press, internet, radio, and cinema advertising. Production costs are however not included in the agreement.
Candidates with political mandates are prohibited from financing paid advertising in the context of their mandates. The parties further limited the number of billboards and their size. For the parliamentary elections, posters can be slightly larger. All posters and gadgets must however be manufactured from sustainable materials.
Municipal elections will take place on 11 June 2023 and the general elections on 8 October 2023. Campaigns for the municipal elections will start four weeks ahead of election day. For the parliamentary elections, they can start five weeks before votes are cast.
