Hesperange embezzlement caseProsecution recommends eight-year prison sentence for main defendant

RTL Today
The prosecution in the Hesperange embezzlement trial put forward its recommended sentences for the three people involved in the case on Monday morning.

On Monday morning, the former head of technical services in the municipality of Hesperange and the businessman involved in the embezzlement case gave testimony in court. Both acknowledged their actions and expressed remorse.

The municipal technician stands accused of having helped the main defendant falsify checks for personal financial gains since 2003. He allegedly misused about €500,000.

The technician portrayed himself as easily manipulated, irresponsible, and addicted to alcohol. He colluded with the involved businessman to have his private checks billed to the municipality.

The businessman explained that he complied due to fears that his company would no longer receive jobs from the municipality.

The prosecution described the events as serious and demanded eight years in prison for the main defendant, half of which will be suspended. A sentence of five years and six months in prison, half of which will be suspended, was recommended for the technician. The businessman should receive a fully suspended prison sentence of 18 months, the prosecution further argued.

The trial is due to end on Tuesday afternoon.
