According to a study published by Henley & Partners, the Luxembourgish passport is among the five most "powerful" passports in the world.

Japan has dominated the ranking for the last five years, permitting passport holders to visit 193 out of 227 destinations without a visa, according to the study.

The second place is shared by citizens of South Korea and Singapore who can visit 192 destinations, while Germany and Spain share third place with 190 destinations.

The Luxembourgish passport comes in fourth place with a total of 189 destinations that are accessible without a visa. Luxembourg's highest placement was ten years ago (2013), when it occupied the second place in the ranking established by Henley & Partners.

A similar drop in position applies to the British passport (now ranked 6th) and the American passport (now ranked 7th), after occupying first place almost ten years ago.

The French and Belgian passports give access to 187 and 186 visa-free destinations, putting them on a par with British and American passports.

At the bottom of the ranking, we find Afghanistan with a score of 27 destinations accessible without a visa.

Note that the Henley & Partners Passport Index compares the visa-free access of 199 passports to 227 travel destinations.
