90 firefighters work at the Cloche d’Or site, 17 of which are full-time professionals. The fire department works in 8-hour shifts, with the night shift frequently covered by volunteers.
The response time from the moment the alarm rings is two minutes for ambulances and 10 minutes for the fire brigade, unless the centre is occupied, then it’s also 2 minutes.
The goal of the CGDIS is for the first firefighter to arrive at the scene no later than 15 minutes after the alarm.
This year, the CIS Mamer responded to 4,000 calls.
The Corps also oversees 19 turntable ladder fire trucks, 6 of which are positioned in the south. These ladders are able to extend 30 metres. Each vehicle costs around €650,000.
Operators at the 112 centre decide what equipment is needed for the rescue operation. For example, if there is an apartment fire, operators send at least two fire trucks, one turntable truck, one long ladder and an ambulance.
A recent fire in Kayl, which killed one young boy and left 11 injured, raised new questions about the distribution of vehicles.

Interior Minister Taina Bofferding confirmed in a parliamentary response that the Kayl-Tétange centre no longer had a turntable ladder or telescopic mast. In fact these pieces of equipment have not been stationed there since June 2021, as they now fall under the responsibility of the CGDIS.
While the telescopic mast from Schifflange Operations Centre was in place after 16 minutes, it is not clear how long it took for the aerial ladder to arrive from Dudelange to the location in Kayl.
