The latest reports from the Grand Ducal Police show that several break-ins were reported overnight. Officers were also forced to respond to drink drivers in various locations.
Burglaries
A Beaufort resident surprised two masked burglars in his house when returning home shortly before 11pm on Saturday. Both immediately fled the scene in the direction of the local primary school after being caught off-guard.
Shortly after 1am on Sunday, another break-in occurred in a newspaper kiosk on Avenue de la Porte Neuve in Luxembourg City. At 4am, a booth at the Christmas market in Echternach also fell victim to burglars.
Overnight, four more break-ins were reported in apartments in Altwies, Useldange, Olm, and Koerich. Burglars stole cash, jewellery, and electronic appliances in most cases. Investigations have been opened.
Drink drivers
Around 10.20pm on Saturday, a police patrol in Pétange discovered the scene of a car accident on Rue Pierre Hammer. Material damage was reportedly high, but the driver uninjured. Officers revoked the driving license after the motorist tested positive for alcohol.
Shorty after 3am on Sunday, police were alerted to a reckless driver, with whom they eventually caught up in Frisange. Since the motorist's alcohol test was positive, officers revoked the driving license at the scene.
Around 6am, police found a driver asleep behind the wheel on Boulevard General Patton in the capital. The car was stationed on a cycling lane and the engine still running. The motorist tested positive for alcohol and therefore received a driving ban.
An accident was reported between Filsdorf and Ellange shortly after 7am. The driver remained uninjured and even fell asleep behind the wheel. Although he showed clear signs of intoxication, he refused to take an alcohol test, which is why police awarded a driving ban.
