Luxembourg will be receiving an EU support package of €1.8 million to finance the repair of damages caused by the July 2021 floods.

Luxembourg made the request in parallel with Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria, all countries affected by the floods.

The assistance is part of the EU Solidarity Fund, an instrument of the EU budget set up in 2002 to support Member States in their response to major natural disasters. Since its establishment, funds were granted following 80 natural disasters, including floods, fires or storms in 24 European countries.

Finance Minister Yuriko Backes commented said that "the historic floods in July 2021 were devastating in many ways and the financial contribution to be made through the EU budget is a much appreciated gesture of European solidarity."
