While Covid-19 figures are stable in Luxembourg, a cluster occurred in a retirement home in Luxembourg City, where one in five residents tested positive.

Overall, about 150 patients from 26 different homes have lately tested positive for Covid-19.

However, one Integrated Centre for the Elderly (CIPA) stands out. At the 'Fondation Pescatore' home in Luxembourg City about 60 residents are infected with Covid-19, which corresponds to one resident out of five.

As a consequence, the restaurants in this home are closed until further notice and visitors are required to wear an FFP2 mask at all times and, preferably, test themselves before each visit.

Contacted by our colleagues from RTL.lu, the Ministry of Family Affairs assured that all affected residents show only "mild flu symptoms."

During the vote on the new Covid-19 law in the Chamber of Deputies last Friday, Minister of Health Paulette Lenert had made it clear that "protective measures" will remain in force "in places where workers are in contact with vulnerable people." She also announced that systematic contact tracing, which was abolished by the new law, could be reactivated in the event of larger clusters, for example in retirement homes.

Retirement and nursing homes are in permanent contact with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Directorate to adapt the anti-Covid measures and restrictions on a case-by-case basis, depending on the evolution of the situation.
