A year after its creation, the Climate Policy Observatory (OPC) issued its first report last Friday, finding that there is room for improvement in the setting of more ambitious climate goals.
Andrew Ferrone, president of the Observatory, provided insight into several of the recommendations issued in the report. He stressed the importance of having a frame under which to manage climate policies and integrate residents into the implementation process.
Ferrone elaborates: "There is no other way of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. ... We have to use the energy that we need as efficiently as possible and make sure that it is renewable." The president of the Climate Policy Observatory further underlined the role of inter-ministerial cooperation.
The report also outlines a number of recommendations in relation to infrastructure, noted Ferrone: "Luxembourg already has high standards when it comes to buildings that use little energy. But, we can still go further and integrate more sustainable construction material. We can create more green and blue spaces around buildings, which will further support our adjustment to climate change."
