The woman was on the way to the station at around 3.40pm when she was accosted by an unknown man, who proceeded to threaten and then attack her with a knife. The woman suffered wounds to her hands trying to defend herself. Although she was eventually pushed to the ground, she continued fighting off the attacker, which helped her prevent worse injuries, say police.

The man abandoned his pursuit, declared that he wanted to take his own life, and left. The woman was brought to a hospital where she received surgery.

A police patrol later located the fugitive man, still carrying the knife, on Rue Oscar Romero. He was told to put down the weapon, which he refused before injuring his own throat. While officers managed to detain him and treat his wound, he still tried to reach for a second knife, but remained unsuccessful.

Both knives were seized and the man brought to a hospital. The prosecutor’s office subsequently ordered his arrest.
