Trier police reported a serious incident on Friday evening as a young driver was left with severe injuries following a crash on the A1 motorway.
The 20 year old driver lost control of his vehicle near the Manderscheid/Hasborn exit at around 7.30pm on Friday evening. The car came off the road and crashed into trees along the roadside, leaving the vehicle "completely destroyed", according to police reports.
Fire fighters arrived on the scene to cut the driver out of the wreckage. He was then air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed to traffic to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. Fire crews were joined by police from Wittlich and Schweich, as well as the air ambulance.
