According to the weekly newspaper D'Lëtzebuerger Land, Luxembourgish businessman Gérard Lopez is under investigation for suspected forgery.

The affair goes back to an investigation by Radio 100,7. Back in June 2015, the public service radio station reported that the Luxembourgish businessman was suspected of money laundering. €2 million was allegedly transferred from the Lotus Formula 1 Team to Lopez's football club CS Fola Esch. The funds were then allegedly transferred again to a Hong Kong-based business controlled by Eric Lux.

Members of the Luxembourgish Football Association reported the incident to the public prosecutor's office at the time.

Gérard Lopez denies the accusations against him, according to D'Lëtzebuerger Land. The presumption of innocence naturally applies to both Lopez and Lux.

The weekly newspaper notes that this is a "disastrous year" for Lopez, as his investments in the sports sector are not going as planned and he has to deal with regular criticism over his relations with Russia.
