A waiting time of up to one and a half years: The problem of obtaining an appointment for a mammogram has become even more acute in Luxembourg.

Minister of Health Paulette Lenert confirmed this delay in her response to a parliamentary question by MPs Jeff Engelen and Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr).

Waiting times were already long two years ago, but now they are even longer. However, they vary from hospital to hospital.

To get an appointment for a mammogram, the waiting time is 18 months at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), ten months at the Kirchberg hospital, 4.5 months at the hospital in Esch-sur-Alzette, and 3.5 months in Ettelbruck.

It should be pointed out that this refers to the time frame for a regular appointment, for example when a doctor recommends a mammogram to a patient.

However, the Minister points out that in the event of an emergency, when symptoms are present, the patients concerned always get an appointment within two weeks at the latest. In addition, it is possible to get an appointment more quickly under the National Prevention Programme for women over 50.
