A recent report on population growth from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) shows that after a demographic slowdown in 2020, the Grand Duchy's population increased by more than 10,000 people last year.

On 1 January 2022, 645,397 people lived in Luxembourg. This means that population growth since 1 January the previous year was 1.7%, the same rate it used to be before the pandemic.

25,335 people moved to the Grand Duchy last year, the majority of whom were French nationals (12.8%), followed by Italian nationals (9.6%), and Portuguese nationals (8.9%).

During the same period, 15,959 people left the country, including 3,063 Luxembourgers, 3,055 Portuguese nationals, and 2,394 French nationals.

With 52.9%, Luxembourg nationals represent a slight majority in the country's population. The biggest community of foreign nationals is Portuguese (14.5%), followed by the French community (7.6%), and the Italian one (3.7%).
