On Sunday evening, a drunk driver failed to observe a high-tide alert sign and submerged his car in the waters of the Moselle river.

According to the respective police report, the incident took place on Rue Robert Goebbels in Schengen shortly before 10.00 p.m. on Sunday.

After ignoring the road sign, the motorist unsuccessfully attempted to cross the flooded street, which lead to his car sinking into the water from the Moselle river.

Firefighters later towed the vehicle out of the water while the driver was subjected to an alcohol test, which came back positive. Officers thus revoked the man's driving license.
