Not everyone has the opportunity to host refugees at home, which is where the initiative "Godparents of Luxembourg" comes in.

Solidarity for Ukraine is immense in Europe as well as in Luxembourg. Projects to help refugees have been set up all over the country in parallel with numerous appeals for donations. A new initiative called "Godparents of Luxembourg" was launched last week, where individuals can adopt a godchild from Ukraine.

The association offers another way of helping, as Maria Dupin, coordinator of Godparents of Luxembourg, explains. The idea is simple, it consists of helping refugees and their host families locally in their community. We organise and coordinate the whole thing, after having obtained information from other organisations who know who needs what, we contact the sponsors concerned.

Registration is done through an online form, and each sponsor normally takes care of one Ukrainian family and supports them in their daily life in Luxembourg.

The time available varies according to each person, who can help according to their availability. It depends on what has been agreed with the family, whether it is once a week or twice a month, everyone can help in their own way and according to their availability, Maria Dupin explains.

In the next few days, the initiative will be officially launched in three municipalities in the centre of the country, with others to follow gradually. So far, more than 230 sponsors have sent in their applications.

If you also want to join this solidarity movement, you can register via the online form available here.
