Minister of Health Paulette Lenert and Minister for Mobility François Bausch stated Monday that no major infection clusters have been recorded on public transport since the beginning of the pandemic.
The ministers made the comments in a joint response to MP Jeff Engelen, who recently addressed the risk of contracting Covid-19 on public transport in a parliamentary enquiry.
Out of 74,500 cases where the contact tracing team were able to identify a source of infection, public transport was only mentioned around 50 times.
This means that buses, trains, and trams were only involved in 0.06% of cases.
However, this does not rule out the possibility of infections occurred on international bus travel or other sources. Some of the earliest clusters of the pandemic worldwide were recorded on cruise ships such as the Diamond Princess.
