The former LSAP Foreign Minister, MP, and Municipal Councillor Jacques Poos passed away in hospital on Saturday morning at the age of 86.
Poos was voted into the Chamber of Deputies for the first time in 1970, serving as Minister of Finance between 1976 and 1979.
He returned to the government in 1984, holding a number of positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, and Minister of the Economy.
Poos was a member of the government and Deputy Prime Minister until 1999. He served under the Prime Ministers Gaston Thorn, Jacques Santer, and Jean-Claude Juncker.
Poos was voted into the European Parliament in 1999 and remained an MEP until 2004. At that point, Poos retired from active political life.
