From 2 March, a new initiative will try and collect signatures across Luxembourg's municipalities to trigger a referendum on the reform of the second article of the constitution.

The initiative was validated by the Chamber of Deputies on 25 January.

This is the second initiative on the constitutional reform. A previous initiative collected about 7,400 signatures out of the required 25,000, which led to a second constitutional vote in the Chamber of Deputies, but not to a referendum.

An initiative committee is behind this second attempt to organise a constitutional referendum. Nine people are on the committee:

Ms Jutta Margarete KIRSTEN, 53, 10A, Route de Mondorf, L-5670 Altwies;
Mr Bob SCHMITZ, 40, 4, Montée St. Urbain, L-5573 Remich;
Ms Nora Liliane PLEIMLING, 36, 2, Um Bangels, L-7640 Christnach;
Mr Patrick MISCHEL, 44, 48, Op der Schanz, L-6225 Altrier;
Ms Valérie LORANG, 30, 71, Rue de Larochette, L-7635 Ernzen;
Mr Pierre Lucien Joseph LORANG, 61, 126, Rue de Luxembourg, L-7540 Rollingen;
Mr Benoit HENKES, 50, 27, Rue de l’École, L-9184 Schrondweiler;
Ms Marie Jeanne ARENDT, 54, 24, An Aasselbaach, L-9776 Wilwerwiltz; and
Ms Caterina Carmen MANUCCI, 59, 3, Rue Kiem, L-6187 Gonderange.

The initiative can be signed at the different municipalities of the country between 2 and 25 March. Those eligible to participate will have to go to their respective town hall to participate in the call for signatures in favour of a potential constitutional referendum.
