Ministry of StatePM Bettel declares request for referendum over constitutional reform admissible

The Prime Minister recently received another demand for a referendum over the constitutional reform, which he approved on Monday.

This means that municipalities will once more have to prepare lists that people can sign to support the request for a referendum. The citizen’s initiative needs a minimum of 25,000 signatures to pass.

If the threshold is met, the government only has six months to organise a referendum. However, the vote has to be on a Sunday or on a public holiday, and must be at least three months prior to or after national and European elections.
